  • When is Markham Stouffville Hospital’s Guinness
    World Record Golf Day?

    Bank Holiday Monday, July 3rd, 2006… sun-up to sun-down!

  • Where is it taking place?
Angus Glen Golf Club (North Course),
    10080 Kennedy Rd.,
    Markham, ON L6C 1N9.

  • What’s involved?
A full day of golf related events and activities, including Guinness World Record Golf Events, clinics etc… come for the day (hey, it is a holiday after all!)!

  • Who can play?
Golfers of all ages and abilities! If you can swing a golf club and can walk a full-18 hole course, you’re more than welcome to help put Markham on the map while raising money for a great cause… (Youngsters are particularly encouraged to play, so bring your children! We’re also planning a number of Junior Guinness Golf World Records they might want to try!)

  • Will I have a chance to beat an official Guinness World Record?
You betcha! As of April 1st, 6 Official Guinness World Golf Records have been registered! They are:
  • Most Golfers to Play a Medal Round in
  • 24 Hours (Currently 491 golfers)
  • Fastest Four-ball Medal Round (73 min, 43 sec)
  • Longest Drive Caught (200 yards)
  • Longest Single-handed Drive (282 yards)
  • Fastest Indiv. to Complete a 500 Yd. Hole (1 min, 52 sec)
  • Most Consecutive Golfers to Hit a Shot
  • Into a Target Area (TBA)

  • Will there be other fun things to do on the day?
In addition to offering participants a chance to get into the Guinness Book of World Records, they’ll also have an opportunity to participate in a variety of other fun activities, including:
    • Million Dollar Challenge
    • Golf Clinics
    • Kids “Mini” Golf Contest
    • Silent Auction
    • 50/50 Draw
    • VIP Lounge
    • Free driving range usage

There’ll be lots to do and see, and plenty of opportunities to live, breathe and play golf!

  • Will the Guinness Book of World Records be there?
Yes! Guinness Book of World Records’ Editor Craig Glenday will be flying in to officiate at the event, as will Paul Coffey, the Scotsman responsible for setting over 9 Guinness World Records, including those being attempted at Angus Glen!

(*If you or your group are interested in meeting Craig or Paul while they’re in Canada, please contact event organizer Bryan Dearsley at bryan@golfathon.net)

  • How can my business or organization get involved?
From blocking off tee-times for “team-building” exercises to sponsoring a part of this exciting event, there are many opportunities for involvement from community groups and businesses. For example:

    • Challenge Event Partners, the Markham Board of Trade, in their attempt to set a new record for the Most Consecutive Golfers to Hit a Shot Into a Target Area! (Betcha can’t beat these guys and girls, they’re keen to set a record!)

    • Are you a business owner? Sponsor a staff group as a team-building exercise, and challenge them to set a record for the fastest foursome or to make an attempt at catching a drive!

    • Give a preferred client a chance to set a record, and then entertain them afterwards in our VIP Lounge!

    • Check out our Partners and Incentives sections for more details of how you can get involved!

  • What’s the cost to participate?
In order to ensure this event is accessible to everyone, we’ve implemented a unique “Pledge-Raising” program to ensure it truly is a community event. In short, instead of having to pay a fee to play (you can if you want!), participants have an option to raise pledges from friends, family members, businesses etc.

    • A minimum pledge of $250 is required to participate in the main Guinness World Record – Most Golfers to Play a Medal Round in 24 hours and Fastest Four-ball Medal Round

    • Each additional Guinness World Record Attempt requires an additional entrance fee or the collection of pledges for the relevant record. Participants wishing to be included in the following events may request a pledge form specifically for their chosen record breaking attempt:

    Longest Drive Caught (yards)
    Longest Single-handed Drive (yards)
Fastest Individual to Complete a 500 Yard Hole (minutes)
Most Consecutive Golfers to Hit a Shot Into a Target Area

    • Donors may be encouraged to:
Give a certain amount per hole
    Give a fixed donation ($20, $50, $100, etc.)

A pledge form will be sent to participants upon their having registered.

  • How can I make a payment or deposit my pledges?
Payments for Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation’s Guinness World Record Golf Event can be made in advance through our secure Online Payment link, or can be mailed to:

Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation’s Guinness World Record Golf Day,
c/o The Markham Board of Trade,
    80F Centurian Dr., Suite 206, Markham, ON L3R 8C1.

Please make your check payable to:
    MSHF’s World Record Golf Day.

Alternatively, pledges can be handed in on the day of play (pledge money must be submitted in order for a player to participate – please bring all completed pledge forms when you register on the day).

  • I want to help… can I volunteer?
Yup! We’ll find something for you to do… and bring your friends! Contact us for more details…
